19th Century Naval Bosuns Persuader
A good example of an early 19th century naval bosuns persuader. A ‘persuader’ was used by senior non commissioned naval officers (often the ships bosun) to keep sailors in line and to press-gang those men that were unwilling to join the service.
This example is made with a central shaft of malacca and is weighted at each end with lead which is bound in fine thread.
