Russian Type 2 Lifchik Chest Rig
An original Russian Type 2 Lifchik chest rig. The Lifchik (meaning bra in Russian) chest rigs were developed and manufactured in the 1980’s and 90’s by the Russian military after realising the need for a combat rig during the Soviet Afghan war. The iconic Lifchik chest rigs were widely used throughout both of the Russian Chechen wars.
The chest rig has 3 main pockets which can hold up to six (2 per pocket) AK-74 magazines. There are also 4 secondary pockets which can hold up to 4 F1 or RGD-5 hand grenades. It also has two small compartments for holding 2 RSP-30 flares. The pouches are secured with leather tabs and brass studs. The inside of all the pockets has a white soft fabric for ease of inserting magazines or grenades.
This example is dated for 1988 and is in good used condition with a minor field repair on one of the magazine pouches. The previous owner has drawn a Soviet star onto the flap of the centre magazine pouch.
Good example of a very uncommon item.
